Hello all, Today, I obtained a phone interview for a government job, GS-13 level. The phone interview is Monday. This would be a great job to have. I also seem to have an "in" for this job. A manager for a past internship emailed me today saying that the hiring manager for the job was asking about me. I would like to know what an average timeline looks after the phone interview round? Does it take a while? Also, I have applied to other non-public sector jobs and I seem to be closing in on another job. It's not final yet however. But I want to be sure I make the right decision and end up with atleast one job instead of ending up with nothing. I would really like a shot at this government job however I am unsure if it would be a slow process. I am posting to see what I could expect going forward for this government job.

I think based on the economy it's pretty much common place now. A hiring official recently requested that I do a face-to-face interview on my own dime and I thought that was weird. #4 Wednesday, July 14, 2010 9:46:15 AM(UTC) Wow! That's incredible, goicuon, that you received a GS-11 offer without an interview. Were you already in the Federal system? I am a private sector person and new to the federal hiring process. After having gone through the complicated pre-selection process, I thought that phone interviews were common to ascertain whether they want to bring you in for a *real* interview. I had no idea that interviews were being made solely based on phone calls. I understand the economic reasons for it - given that costs of bringing more than just a few people in can add up quickly. However, still completely foreign and NEVER done in the private sector.
